Announcements for the week of December 4, 2016

* Click HERE for information concerning the sixth grade class trip to Columbus, Ga. Copies of this letter will be given to students tomorrow in class.

* This Friday, 12/9/16, will be tacky Christmas sweater day for middle school students. Students are encouraged to wear the tackiest, gaudiest, Christmasiest sweater they can find as we celebrate the season with our annual Christmas lunch.

Announcements for 10/1/16

* This Wednesday - Friday we will be on exam schedule, but 6th grade does not have exams. Students will have extended time in each class but will not go to every class every day. You can access the schedule HERE.

* We held our first computer roll-out session today. Everyone else will get computers at the parent meeting tomorrow night at 7:00.

* School will be dismissed at 1:00 on Friday, and Monday and Tuesday will be school holidays for students. The buses and carpool will run at 1:00 on Friday.

Announcements for 9/26/15

*School pictures will be taken tomorrow. Everyone's picture will be taken for the yearbook, and you will have the opportunity to order prints in a few weeks. Sixth grade pictures will be taken during 5th period PE/computer. Students must be in school uniform for these pictures.

*Permission slips and checks for the field trips must be turned in by Friday, 9/30. If there is a problem meeting this deadline, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. If you have misplaced your permission slip, please print another one HERE.

*We are rapidly approaching the days when computers will be distributed to students. Everyone has signed up for a training class. Please make sure you have the correct time and day marked on your calendar.

Announcements for 9/16/16

* Monday is TWIN DAY! Encourage your child to find a twin, triplet, quadruplet, or squad and dress alike. Costumes do not have to be elaborate - anything will do - and be creative.

* Clarification on chaperones for field trips: You may go on either the Stone Mountain or Gwinnett Environmental Center trip and still be considered for the Columbus trip. The Columbus trip is a completely separate process. More information will be sent out about that trip in November.

Announcements for 9/13/16

We are excited to announce that this year the entire school will have the same dress-up days for Homecoming Week. This should make for a lot of excitement leading up to our game against Prince Avenue. Below you will find a list of the themes for each day as well as the guidelines covering acceptable attire.

Also, on Thursday, September 22, we will be decorating the golf carts for the homecoming parade. All available middle schoolers are asked to stay after school until 4:00 to help blow up balloons.   We will be working outside the lower school gym and pick up will be at 4:00 in the lower school carpool line.

Dress Up Days:  Monday-Friday (September 19th-23rd)
Monday:  Twin Day
Tuesday:  Character Day
Wednesday:  Decade Day
Thursday:  Disney Day
Friday:   Farm Day

Guidelines for Costumes:

*Students who are not dressed in the theme of the day must wear school uniform.
*No masks or painted faces allowed.
*Headpieces may be worn if they are a part of the costume, but teachers may ask students to remove them in the classroom.
*No cut-off shorts or pants.
*Shorts and skirts must meet dress code length requirements.

*if you wear a leotard or leggings your top must cover you to uniform length.

Announcements for 9/6/16

*Thank you to everyone who has already completed the Module 1 training. If you have not completed the course, please do so before 9/12/16. If after the final assessment, it is not showing that you have completed the course, try refreshing the page.

*Please remember to sign up for a class time for Module 3. An email was sent out by Mrs. Lyndsey Bailey concerning this class.

*There will be a question/answer session for 6th grade parents on Thursday, 9/8/16 at 7:45 am in the Upper School Media Center.

*This Friday, September 9th, is a PINK OUT at GWA. All students and staff are welcome to wear pink attire or GWA spirit wear to school on Friday. This includes:

    **Pink shirts, bows, shoe laces, pants, or appropriate length shorts
    **GWA spririt wear - no collard shirt requried
    **Jeans - NO JEAN SHORTS
   If you do not wear jeans, black or khaki uniform shorts or pants are required.
NO painted faces or hair during the school day.

Important Announcement:

*An email was sent today giving instructions for completing Module 1 of the computer roll out training. Please check your email and follow the instructions carefully.

*An email was sent Wednesday with instructions for signing up for Module 2 classes. There are two sessions of this class being offered and the student and one parent are required to attend one of the sessions. At this session, the student will get his or her computer.

*In honor of Labor Day, there is no school on Monday, September 5, 2016.

Announcements for the week of 8/29/16

We are off to a great start. Most students seem to have adapted well to the new expectations of 6th grade. If your child is still struggling, please let us know, so we may offer suggestions for helping him her along.

You should have received an email from Lindsey Bailey, one of our counselors, concerning the 1:1 laptop roll-out. Please read this email carefully. It contains a lot of very important information concerning this exciting new phase for 6th graders. More information will be released this week so be on the look our for that also.

There will be an informational meeting for parents of 6th graders on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Mrs. Smith and the  6th grade academic teachers will be there to provide information and answer general questions about 6th grade. More information will follow.

Monday is a holiday! Enjoy the Labor Day Holiday.

Announcements for 8/4/16

Thank you for coming to Open House. It was great to see everyone. We are looking forward to a great year.

Here are a couple of reminders or things you may have missed:

* Please sign-up to follow our blog so that you will get email notification of updates.

* Upper school begins at 8:10. It is best to arrive at school no later than 8:00 to allow time to visit locker, put away band instrument, go to the restroom, etc.

* Students should use the Upper School carpool line unless they have a sibling or carpool partner in the Lower School. Students will be released at 2:50 for the first month; they will be dismissed at 2:55 after the first month. In Upper School we do not have carpool numbers. Students sit together by grade level and are responsible for watching for their ride.

* You received a letter and a behavior plan printed on lavender paper. You can view or print these HERE and HERE.  After you have read the letter and the behavior plan, please sign the lavender signature sheet.

* You were given the syllabus for each class today in open house. Please read these and initial the lavender signature sheet.

* You can access the most complete and up-to-date version of the dress code HERE. Please make sure you read this carefully as dress code is enforced middle school. Pay close attention to the guidelines for hair on boys.

* Several people asked if teachers need any other supplies for the classroom. We all give out candy occasionally. We are happy to accept donations of candy such as Jolly Ranchers, Dum Dums, Starburst, and other candy. Mrs. Grimsley and Mrs. White also use colored paper during the year. Thanks in advance if you choose to donate.
